Birding by the Seasons

Winter

With some of the most mild temperatures anywhere in Canada in Winter, the Vancouver region is the perfect place to be birding. Winter brings an abundance of waterfowl, seabirds, raptors, and large flocks of wintering shorebirds.

Spring brings impressive migration, with a wide array of birds heading north along the Pacific Flyway. Highlights include migrating songbirds such as warblers, and shorebird flocks on their way from South America to the Arctic.

In early Summer, breeding songbirds are busy singing, and raising their young. Beginning in July and continuing into fall, shorebirds begin passing through once again on their way south from their Arctic breeding grounds.
