The city of Richmond is mecca for travelers, attracting people from around the world. However, it’s also a mecca for avian life, attracting millions of migratory birds each year. The mouth of the mighty Fraser River provides important nutrients, fueling a diverse and rich ecosystem along a massive migration path known as the Pacific Flyway. With over 300 species recorded, Richmond is a worldclass birding hotspot. Join a local ornithologist and expert birder in the field to explore the birdlife of Richmond, and learn the skills that it takes to be birder.

Your guide: Liron Gertsman
Liron Gertsman is an award-winning nature photographer and birder based in Vancouver, Canada. His work has been experienced by millions in some of the largest museums across the world, including the Natural History Museum in London and the Smithsonian in Washington DC. With 15 years of experience seeking out birds and wildlife in the region, Liron has intimate knowledge of local birds and birding hotspots. Liron has ornithological training from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Birds Canada, and holds a biology degree from the University of British Columbia.
Important information
What to wear: This experience is run rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Close-toed shoes are recommended.
Physical requirements: You can expect a slow-paced walk over flat ground for up to 3 kilometers.
Maximum group size: 10 people
What to bring: A camera or binoculars are recommended, but not required.
